Influences
I chose to reflect on one exercise that we did at the beginning of the semester. We were asked to reflect on influential teachers that we’ve had in the past. I chose this piece because it was the first time I had thought about my experiences-good and bad-with writing. This piece helped me to see the different ways teachers have or have not provided support for my writing. When I looked back at my experiences I was able to figure out why my good experiences were good and the bad, bad. This helped me because I was able to put those good practices to use in my writing for school.
By being able to put into words why some teachers were good influences and why others were not so good, I was able to figure out how I want to treat my students. I am grateful for the bad experiences because they taught me what I don’t want to do with my students. I know the right way to show support, give constructive feedback, and elicit good writing. I know that you need to respect your students and their work at all times and maybe one day my name will be written in someone’s Daybook as an influential teacher.
